Inspection for Glen Burnie

Twenty-seven stations, the MVA headquarters, and exactly one Class C license.

What's in ZIP 21061

Twenty-seven licensed stations — more than any other town on this site — almost all dealership lanes on Ritchie or Crain Highway: Toyota, Kia, Nissan, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Honda. For an ordinary car there’s little reason to drive here. Only one of the twenty-seven holds Class C — for the largest town in the area.

Three different things, easily confused

The MVA (6601 Ritchie Highway NE) does titles and registration, open Mon–Fri 8:30–4:30 and Sat 8:00–noon. VEIP (721 E. Ordnance Road, 24-hour kiosk) does the emissions test. A licensed station like Chuck’s does the safety inspection. No repair shop in Maryland does the middle one.

When the drive north is worth it

  • For a sedan: probably not, 27 stations are already local
  • For anything over 10,000 lb: yes — one Class C station locally is a single point of failure
  • For a truck and trailer together: yes, one trip instead of two shops
  • No annual inspection — only when a vehicle changes hands
  • A passing certificate is good for 90 days
  • 30-day, 1,000-mile window to bring a failed item back
  • VEIP fee: $30 at a station, $26 at a self-service kiosk
  • The GVWR on the door-jamb sticker is what sets the class
  • Salvage title? A separate $75 MSP salvage inspection comes first
